Sauti is a women-led social enterprise based in Kenya that deploys market and trade information to women cross border traders in “low-technology” environments across East Africa. Sauti leverages on the competitive advantage of mobile technology, specifically USSD and SMS, to deliver tailored trade and market information to SME traders. Our mission is to empower women cross-border traders to trade legally, safely, and profitably. Our information platforms specifically address the accessibility obstacles facing SMEs in East Africa, namely the digital information gap. Sauti designs its information platforms to not require a smartphone, nor an internet connection. Information is also presented in simplified language, and in multiple local languages. Our platforms are currently available in Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, and Tanzania. Since launching in 2017, Sauti has had 130,000 users-to-date.
