LIDSAM INVESTMENT LTD PROFILE Lidsam Investment Ltd is a fully registered company. The company is owned by Lydia Wanja, a person with a disability {PWD} as the Director. We mainly deals with Horticulture Production and Food chain Value addition whereby we practice farming in greenhouse ,Shed Nets and open field by use of drip irrigation. Most of our products such as Avocados,Herbs such as Sage, Tarrago ,Basil, Oregano and many more other herbs as well as vegetables are sold on the ready market locally and also several export market, The company was started in the year 2019 with a purpose of setting up a business that would provide food production and generate income as a way of solving problems and financial challenges facing people living in area that regularly experience drought due to inadequate or lack of rainfall in several seasons due to the current Global worming leading to climate change. The greenhouses are managed with very little water through drip irrigation as compared with open-field farming. After setting up the project we usually engage agriculture specialist to train women youth and PWD in order to work in a simple task like harvesting and sorting the products ready for market, Therefore this helps the employees to generate income and support their livelihood without any stress. As away of mitigating the current Climate Change in the world lidsam employ the following strategies: 1.Water Management Techniques: oRainwater Harvesting: Collecting and storing rainwater for irrigation and livestock use during dry periods. Techniques include using water pans, ponds, and rooftop collection systems. oDrip Irrigation Systems: Implementing efficient irrigation methods to minimize water wastage and ensure crops receive adequate moisture. Drip irrigation is particularly suitable for arid and semi-arid areas. oWater Recycling: Reusing water in farming operations to maximize resource use and reduce dependency on scarce water sources. 2.Agroforestry: oIntegrating Trees with Crops: Planting trees alongside crops to provide shade, reduce soil erosion, and improve soil fertility. Trees such as acacia and moringa are beneficial for such systems. oWindbreaks: Establishing tree belts to protect crops from wind damage and reduce transpiration. This also helps in conserving soil moisture. Lidsam Investment ltd realized the existing business opportunity and therefore planned on how to enlarge and increase its production in horticulture, hence setting up 10 greenhouses. The company main three objectives at the time of enlarging the project were to; i. Increase the production of herbs and vegetables hence bridging the food shortage gap. ii. Offer employment opportunities to the youth, women and PWD in order to eradicate poverty and improve their livelihood iii.Improve the Company Revenue by 80% per year Lidsam Investment emphasizes on technologies geared towards women and youth-oriented horticulture production and food value chain addition that is from farm to spoon, In order to make this possible we are working to get the equipment and machines to be involved in such initiatives therefore: Lidsam Investment seeks to create an inclusive and supportive working environment that enables women ,youth and PWD’s to realize their full potential and advance in their careers by implementing various infrastructure and support mechanisms. Specifically, Lidsam have invested in the following infrastructure; Solar Driers for drying hubs after harvest – Lidsam Investment have invested in Hybrid Solar drier for drying vegetables, herbs and fruits making it more hygienically handled, increasing shelve life and retaining the nutritional value of the products. Coldchain technology and Refrigerated trucks - To Maintain the recommended temperatures for the fresh produce after harvest and later transporting the produce to the market safely and in the high quality state – Lidsam investment have invested ina ten tones Cold Room powered by Solar Panels and also hires Refrigerated truck for ferrying herbs to the airport hence sustain the quality of fresh produce from the farm to the end consumer. This also provides the company with a competitive edge. Install Oil extractor Machines - Lidsam investment have Planned to venture into extraction of Avocado edible oils that are on high demands worldwide. The raw materials will be corrected from Lidsam own Orchards as well as from the out-growers who are already trained on the best production strategies. Manufacturing of Edible oils target to create more jobs and also increase the company revenue. Branding, Packaging and sealing machines - To capitalize on the markets, Lidsam investment employs modern technology of branding, packaging and sealing in order to market our products here in Kenya as well us outside the country such as in USA and other Federal states as the company already have the Unique Entry Id. The Presence of a Child Day Care Center Lidsam has established a child day care center at the farm. Women with children come and leave their children with a trained caretaker who looks after the children while the women work. We have also created a small room where lactating mothers sit as they breast feed their children. All workers including mothers to these children get free meals and drinks and those with medication for their children leave it with the care taker. Women are allowed to go check on their children while working on the farm. The CEO has provided some space where the women workers clean up as they prepare to check on their children to remove the smell of the chemicals from the greenhouses.
