Jacob Kumwenda is an agribusiness and market systems professional with over 10 years of experience in agricultural commodity trading, agribusiness management, market development, and strengthening smallholder farmer market linkages. He has extensive expertise in managing agribusiness institutions and agricultural value chains, facilitating market access, and developing commercially sustainable solutions that connect farmers to formal and regional markets.
His experience includes leading agribusiness operations, managing multidisciplinary teams, overseeing business performance, and driving strategic partnerships with the private sector, financial institutions, development organizations, and farmer cooperatives. He has successfully managed programs and commercial initiatives that improve operational efficiency, expand market opportunities, and strengthen institutional sustainability.
Jacob has also managed local and cross-border trade in commodities such as soya beans, groundnuts, and other agricultural products, with expertise in logistics coordination, customs clearance, regulatory compliance, cost analysis, and trade operations across regional trade corridors. He has successfully supported commodity sourcing, pricing, and distribution while ensuring efficient and compliant trading processes.
Combining practical field experience with strong management, financial, and analytical capabilities, Jacob has developed financial models, commodity pricing tools, business cases, and supply chain strategies that improve decision-making and profitability for agribusinesses. His work also includes structuring supply agreements, preparing trade finance proposals, and designing market linkage strategies that strengthen relationships between farmer organizations, buyers, financial institutions, and development partners.
