LAMALO AGRIBUSINESS COMPANY LIMITED (tradename LAMALO ESSENTIALS)
Lamalo Essentials is a youth-led Ugandan agribusiness and natural wellness company that adds value to locally sourced seeds and nuts, mainly sourced from smallholder farmers in Eastern and Northern Uganda. We are addressing two major challenges: the growing use of personal care products made with synthetic ingredients, and the limited local value addition to Uganda’s agricultural raw materials. Many locally produced seeds and nuts have the potential to create higher-value products, yet they are often underutilized, wasted or sold as raw materials without capturing their full economic value. Lamalo Essentials transforms these resources into natural, plant-based oils, butters, soaps and personal care products with no synthetic ingredients. Our products include black castor oil, cold-pressed castor oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, neem oil, avocado oil, sesame oil, peanut oil and Africa Soap, among others. About 90% of the oils we produce are also used as ingredients in our soaps and other value-added products. We also supply natural oils and butters to businesses in the cosmetics and personal care industry that are looking for authentic, locally sourced natural ingredients at affordable prices. Our work supports smallholder farmers by creating a reliable market for their seeds and nuts and connecting their agricultural production to higher-value markets. Through these partnerships, we aim to ensure that farmers are not only suppliers of raw materials but are part of a growing local value chain. Sustainability and the circular economy are central to our production model. We aim to minimize waste by finding additional uses for materials and by-products generated during processing. Seed cakes from neem, sesame and peanut processing, for example, can be repurposed instead of being discarded, while our locally produced oils and butters are further transformed into products such as soaps and body scrubs. Through local value addition, Lamalo Essentials is working to reduce waste, promote natural alternatives to synthetic products, strengthen markets for smallholder farmers and demonstrate that Uganda’s agricultural resources can be transformed locally into competitive products for both consumer and business markets.
