Dais Botanical Bounty is an avocado orchard/farm with a community touch. It is located in an Arid and Semi-Arid Land (ASAL) town called Sipili, in Laikipia West sub-county, Laikipia County, Kenya. Sipili, is highly vulnerable to climate change as the region is predominantly semi-arid. Residents heavily rely on rain-fed agriculture, making their livelihoods exceptionally sensitive to disrupted weather patterns and rainfall irregularity. There is a community dam that collects rainwater but it is more than 3 kilometers away. Many women and children struggle and miss on more very unreliable in light of climate change that has affected the rain patterns greatly, missing on more productive activities like schooling, to go fetch water. The water is stagnant and prone to pollution, hence not safe for drinking. The area has no electricity at the moment. The farm is hoping to to drill a borehole for community use that will be solarized and piped to irrigate both the farm and provide community water points allowing provision of clean drinking water for all seasons for the community at a safe distance, allowing the community to concentrate on more productive activities, and particularly allowing children to go to school consistently. The solarization will also allow flood lighting to make the community more safe and reduce cases of sexual abuse in the area. The farm will establish a rescue center for pregnant teenage girls and mothers suffering from domestic violence that is quite rampant in the area.
